According to public records, the top player for the Los Angeles Lakers and former Miami Heat purchased a luxury condo in Sunny Isles Beach at The Estates at Acqualina. James paid $9 million for the 43rd floor condo at Acqualiana.

Akron, an Ohio-based business founded by James purchased the 2-story unit at 17909 Collins Avenue from the developer. This summer saw the completion of the north tower, which rises 49 stories tall and features 154 luxury condo units.

A 45,000 square foot luxury villa with an ice rink, bowling alley, and the Avra Miami Estiatorio restaurant will be delivered as part of Estates at Acqualina later this year. The late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld created the lobbies in both skyscrapers.

The acquisition signifies James’ return to South Florida as one of the greatest basketball players in history. James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh made up the “Big Three” while they were all members of the Heat from 2010 to 2014.

In 2015, he sold his waterfront residence in Miami’s Coconut Grove district for $13.4 million. James sold one of his Los Angeles houses in Brentwood last year for $19.6 million.

According to Forbes, the athlete became a billionaire this summer and is a co-owner of the clothing chain Unknwn, which has outlets in Wynwood and Akron, Ohio. Additionally, he has investments in businesses including Tonal, a startup home gym, and Blaze Pizza.

The Estates of Acqualina, by the Trump Group led by brothers Jules and Eddie Trump, the Estates is their third condominium development in Sunny Isles. Three single-family residences are part of the development, and prices varied from the mid $4 million range to $35 million for the penthouses.

Karl Lagerfeld Miami

The super-luxe Estates at Acqualina has officially begun construction, with the existing beach motel being demolished this week. The developers hope to have the site completely cleared by March and released a video of the beginning of the demolition (below).

To honor the occasion, the developers paired up with two local charities to hold a celebratory event and press conference that was attended by Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada. All of the furniture in the existing structures has been donated to the hurricane relief in Puerto Rico and the Florida Keys, or to victims that have relocated to Florida after the storms.

The new development is expected to be completed in 2020 and features a lobby designed by Karl Lagerfeld and a 50,000 square foot amenity area. Prices of remaining inventory range from $4.2 million to $9 million. Penthouses and single-family homes are priced upon request.

The Estates At Acqualina Prepares To Begin Construction

Karl Lagerfeld Miami

Karl Lagerfeld Acqualina Lobby

Using the same strategy that they used to acquire the land for Sunny Isles’ Mansions at Acqualina, developer Jules Trump (no relation to Donald) has initiated the auction process on the development site for The Estates at Acqualina, according to an update from their sales office.

On June 1, the process was initiated to acquire the final parcel of the development site, which is already 96% owned. The process should be complete by the end of the summer, making way for demolition of existing structures and construction commencement late in 2017.

The Estates at Acqualina is the latest of the ultra-luxury Acqualina projects including The Mansions at Acqualina and their debut property, Acqualina in Sunny Isles. The Estates at Acqualina will boast an elegant lobby designed by Karl Lagerfeld and a four story amenity plaza dubbed “Circus Maximus”. The amenities will include everything imaginable including a restaurant, cinema, bowling alley, golf and racing simulators and even an ice skating rink… in Miami. Beachgoers will enjoy a 500 linear foot private beach with cabanas and service from the onsite restaurant.

The 154 residences in the South Tower range in size from 2,910 to 6,500 square feet and are priced between $4 million – $39 million. The South Tower is set for completion in 2020, with the North Tower commencing at a later date. Check out this video that details all of the amenities. They really spare nothing.

The Estates at Acqualina’s Model Unit Sales Center is Huge, and Fully Functional

The Estates at Acqualina, which is bringing two more gigantic towers to the lavish and rambling Acqualina Resort & Spa complex in Sunny Isles Beach, just took the cake top off of its extremely at new sales center and model unit which closely duplicates a typical end unit in either building to almost every detail.

To achieve that, it had to be big, considering the typical end unit at the Estates is from approximately 3,500 to over 5,000, in just interior square footage. As icing on the cake, unlike many sales center set ups, and model unit interiors, this place is fully functional. The lights, of course, work, but so do the toilets in the model bathrooms, and the kitchen sink that can be activated by a foot sensor. The host tub gets hot, and the sauna gets hot too.

Connected by a multilevel amenities complex called ‘The Villa’ (which looks, you guessed it, like a villa) the towers are not actually perfectly symmetrical. The north tower has four units per floor, and the south tower has just two, a system that works more efficiently for private elevator access than two matching towers of 3-unit floors. Units come standard with little tricks treats like fountain-fed hot tubs, outdoor saunas accessed via wrap-around balcony, midnight kitchens in the master suite, gas fireplaces, hi-end wine dispensing/preserving appliances, and more marble than at a cemetery in a place called Carrera in Italy. Oh, and the penthouse will have hanging glass pools, just like the one over at the Mansions at Acqualina.

Karl Lagerfeld Designing Lobbies at Estates at Acqualina, Although He Probably Thinks its Gauche

slideshow_img_20150812150017

When Karl Lagerfeld comes to Miami, he stays at tres chic hotels like the Raleigh, the Delano, or the Standard. The Russian oligarchs who buy all his clothes, however, stay at the massive and tragically opulant Acqualina. So it makes absolute sense, on an economic level, that Mr. Lagerfeld, the famed creative director at Chanel, would be hired to create the lobbies of the two newest editions to the Acqualina Resort itself, the towering Estates at Acqualina. Of course Lagerfeld gave an appropriately gushy quote to the Acqualina people for their press release as reprinted in the Real Deal, (“I am excited by the opportunity to design the lobbies of The Estates at Acqualina and take great pride in knowing that the spaces I create will be such important spaces in the building,” etc. etc. said Mr. Lagerfeld) because that’s just what one does, but the quote doesn’t actually say what he thinks of Acqualina itself. Maybe he thinks its gauche? Coco would definitely think its gauche.
