Gables Estates is a gated, waterfront community located in Coral Gables, and is known as one of the most prestigious neighborhoods for luxury homes in all South Florida. Comprised of 170 estate homes situated to the east of the iconic Old Cutler Road, it is a secluded sanctuary of South Miami. Lot sizes here are larger than many other Miami neighborhoods, and the entire community covers roughly 200 acres of Coral Gables’ shoreline. It also encompasses picturesque, sea-walled canals. Residents of Gables Estates take great pride in maintaining the individuality and beauty of their palatial homes, and as such, the neighborhood offers a wide variety of properties to suit any style or taste. As if the gorgeous waterfront views, immaculate homes, and enchanting tree-lined streets aren’t enough, Gables Estates is also family friendly. It is close to various private and preparatory schools, provides 24-hour security, and has a children’s playground. This uber-exclusive community requires a screening process for prospective buyers in which they must be sponsored by residents and/or persons involved with the sale, and attain membership to the Gables Estates Club, Inc. The charming and historic city of Coral Gables, dubbed “the City Beautiful”, features countless options for upscale shopping (eg, The Village of Merrick Park and Miracle Mile), swanky restaurants, arts, and entertainment, all easily accessible to residents of Gables Estates. An exceptional choice for utmost sophistication and luxury, Gables Estates homes are amongst the finest in the country.
Gables Estates Homes History:
The Gables Estates community was developed in the early 1960’s by renowned industrialist, Arthur Vining Davis. The city of Coral Gables was founded and developed by George Merrick during the Florida land boom of the 1920’s, in the architectural style of Mediterranean Revival. Merrick came with his family to Miami from Duxbury, Massachusetts, after his father, Reverend Solomon Merrick, had purchased 160 acres of land there to produce grapefruit, oranges, and avocados. That land was near what we now know as the Granada Golf Course. By 1921, long after his father’s death, George Merrick had then acquired about 3,000 total acres, and then set out to begin the massive real estate development project that was creating the city of Coral Gables.
